Equine Studies

Overview

SUNY Cobleskill Ag & Tech’s Equine Studies program is the oldest curriculum of its kind in New York state. It has been successfully training students to work in the fields of equine care management and related agribusinesses for more than 40 years. Opportunities for graduates of this program are excellent and varied.

Degree Option

Associate in Applied Science (AAS)

  • 60 Credit Hours (2 Years)
  • Students will be prepared to continue their education in bachelor's degree program, or start their career at the entry level in equine industry.

Student Learning Outcomes

At completion of the program, students will be able to successfully: 

  • Evaluate equine facilities for having all essential components, convenience, usefulness, safety, cost-effectiveness, with sensitivity given to the nature of the horse.
  • Identify current reproductive methods and practices in equine breeding.
  • Identify nutritional requirements of the horse and what factors influence them.
  • Develop skills needed to help create and implement a preventative medicine program in all its facets for various equine disciplines and/or facilities.
  • Understand and apply fundamental fiscal factors impacting horse farm economic sustainability.
