Frequently Asked Questions

Where does my sticker go?

Parking permit stickers go on the outside of the rear passenger window on the driver’s side of the vehicle. If you have any additional questions there is a diagram on the back of the sticker, or you can always stop in to University Police

How to pay a parking citation

Parking citations can be paid via the website at https://www.permitsales.net/SUNYcobleskill or in person at the citation with cash or a check made out to SUNY Cobleskill.

I submitted my appeal, what’s next?

You have 10 days from the date of your citation to submit an appeal. Once your appeal is submitted, it will be reviewed by the appeal committee. The committee meets once every two weeks. Once a decision is made, you will be notified via email. If your appeal is approved, your citation will be waived. If your appeal is rejected or downgraded, you will be responsible for any fee that is due at that time. There is no review of appeals. Once a decision is made, it is final.

The following reasons are not sufficient grounds for appealing a parking citation:

I have a hold on my account, what do I do?

Holds are placed on accounts when there are unpaid citations. Citations must be paid before any hold can be lifted.

I want to drive an alternate vehicle to campus

When driving a vehicle to campus that has never been on campus before, or does not have a sticker on it, you will need to obtain a temporary pass from University Police. This is done so between the hours of 8am and 4pm Monday-Friday. When doing so, please provide as much information as possible. This includes make, model, year, color and your license plate. This temporary pass should be placed on the dashboard of your vehicle and should be visible from the outside. Temporary parking passes are $2 a day, unless you have a vehicle that has been registered and currently has a parking pass. If this is a long-term alternative vehicle, it can be considered a 2nd vehicle and you may obtain a parking pass from University Police for $10.

I am injured or have a medical condition and need alternate parking, what do I do?

Any requests for parking accommodations for a medical reason will need to go through the Campus AccessABILITY Office, which can be located in the Center for Academic Support and Excellence (CASE), Van Wagenen Library lower level. They can also be contacted at 518-255-5282 or dss@cobleskill.edu. Alternate parking accommodations will require documentation from a physician. Once the documentation is reviewed and approved, AccessABILITY will reach out to University Police regarding requirements.

In accordance with State Law, disabled parking spaces are reserved for vehicles displaying either disabled license plates, or a New York State Department of Motor Vehicles approved hang tag issued by a municipality.

What to do when your car has been towed

Vehicles may be towed when they have 4 or more unpaid citations. Once a vehicle is towed, the first step should be to pay any unpaid parking citations. Once these are paid, University Police must give authorization to the towing company to release the vehicle. Once this done, you will also be responsible for paying the tow and storage fees upon picking up your vehicle from the towing location.

Parking on Weekends and Overnights

Students are only able to park in the lot that their vehicle is registered for. For example, if you have a P Lot sticker you are only able to park in P Lot. The exception being C Lot. Commuter students may park in Faculty/Staff parking from 5pm to 3am during the week and 5pm Friday night to 3am Sunday Morning on weekends.

I have a guest coming to stay with me, what do I need to do?

Every guest that has a vehicle on campus needs to register it. You will need to obtain a temporary parking pass from either an SRA, RA, RD or University Police. When doing so, please provide as much information as possible. This includes make, model, year, color and your license plate. This temporary pass should be placed on the dashboard of your vehicle and should be visible from the outside. Guests of Vroman and Wieting must park in W Lot. Guests of Alumni Commons must park in P Lot. Guests of Parsons and Davis must park in P Lot. Guests of Ten Eyck, Dix, Pearson, Draper and Fake must park in F Lot visitor parking. This is located in F Lot along Otsego Avenue.

LENS Form Process

LENS Forms allow campus employees and students to drive campus vehicles. If it is necessary to drive a 12-passenger van, van certification is needed. Once a LENS form is submitted, the subject of the form will be able to drive any campus vehicle. This form must be completed, and given to University Police with the original signature. The form will not be accepted if it is scanned, copied or emailed to us. You can find the form here https://www.cobleskill.edu/about/offices-services/facilities-management/pdf/LENSform.pdf. You must have a valid NYS Driver’s License and valid operating privileges in NYS in order to operate a campus vehicle.

Van Certification Process

The van certification class is required for anyone that would like to drive a 12-passenger campus van. An email will need to be sent to University Police via UNIPOL@cobleskill.edu from a person of authority explaining why the driving of a 12-passenger van is needed and giving authorization to do so. Once this is received, a lens form will need to be turned in to UPD, with an original signature. You must have a valid NYS Driver’s License and valid operating privileges in NYS in order to operate a campus vehicle.

Once this is received, a code will be sent to you email describing next steps. If the van class is not completed with 2 weeks of receiving the code you may be responsible for the certification fee of $26. Upon completion of the certification, your name will be added to our database and you will be able to drive the 12-passenger vans.
